Machining

American Rotary phase converters are perfectly suited for precision metalworking equipment such as wire EDM’s, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and other voltage-sensitive applications. General Metal Fabrication equipment such as grinders, welders, shears, brakes, and benders, are often run on American Rotary phase converters. When converting from single phase to three phase power, American Rotary phase converters produce balanced 3-phase output to accommodate both very small, lightly loaded machines as well as very large or heavily…all with just one phase converter.

Phase Converter Wizard

When sizing for a Rotary Phase Converter it is best to size with a 2:1 ratio to ensure you will have enough starting capacity. This sizing guideline will protect your equipment long term and ensure it performs at its highest efficiency.

Try out our Phase Converter Wizard by selecting your equipment type and inputting its total HP rating to see which converter series and size would be best for you.

High Quality Parts

Our Phase Converters are made in Wisconsin, using only the highest quality parts. Our Wisconsin-based team includes in-house R&D, engineering, manufacturing, tech support and customer service. We are dedicated to delivering high quality products and great service to our customers.

American Rotary phase converters come with easy to use installation procedures. A step-by-step installation pictorial is available on our website and we have a You Tube video that outlines the ease of installation. In addition, you always have access to our free industry leading technical support.

Built Tough to Last in the Toughest Conditions

Our exclusive integrated soft-start VIT (Variable Impedance Technology) is built directly into the idler/generator and drastically reduces inrush (starting) current. The result is reliable starts, every time, with no voltage drop that can dim your neighbors’ lights.

American Rotary phase converters are rated to run single or multiple motor loads. This capacity is only limited by the single phase current available. Our phase converters are precision balanced from a “no-load” condition so you don’t need to worry about running a small motor together with larger ones using the same phase converter. More importantly, our phase converters can operate with no load engaged for an indefinite period of time, so you don’t have to worry about damaging our units while your equipment loads are not operating. Our engineering department can help determine the right size phase converter for your needs.

Innovation

American Rotary has a 20+ year history of providing innovative technology and design, making our three phase converters more durable, reliable and precise than competitors. We are committed to continuing to introduce features and advances to improve our product to meet your needs.

Industry Leading Phase Converter Features:

  • Precision voltage balanced with our patented MicroSmart Controller
  • Custom Powder-Coated Steel Nema 1 and Nema 3R Enclosures Available
  • Removable Sides for Easy Installation
  • Wall or Floor Mount Configurations available

Testimonial

High Quality Replacement, owner / Reliance Aviation Propeller Machine Shop
--Machining

My Roto Phase converter gave up after 30 years of faithful service to my 9HP equipment. When it went up in smoke right after finishing a job, I was suddenly down with customers asking when I'd be operational again and I didn't have an answer.
I researched every phase converter manufacturer, weighing cost against quality while reading countless reviews. Finally, I realized the choice was clear on American Rotary. When you're down, you can't worry about money since you're not making any.
The unit took a week to arrive, which gave me my first unplanned shop vacation in years. As an FAA-certified machine shop machining aircraft propellers across the continental US, Canada, and overseas, the work quickly started backing up - from cargo flights to aeromedical operations. That week felt like slow motion.
When the 10-20HP unit finally arrived, we worked the entire weekend installing it. First impression: this is a quality piece of equipment. We had one wiring issue - terminals 6 and 9 were reversed. My son thought he might have gotten those wrong, so we planned to fix it Monday morning.
Monday came, we reversed the wires, hit the switch, and heard that sweet humming sound. When we fired up the mill, it ran noticeably better than our old converter. This unit is fantastic.
Only time will tell if it outlasts our previous 30-year workhorse, but I'm confident it will. The only minor issue was noise from the cover - we added a rubber strip between the lid and housing, which made it much quieter.
We've since caught up on all backed-up work, running three machines with capacity for more. The forced vacation was actually nice - even got the shop cleaned up!
Thank you for building a quality rotary converter that got us back in business.
