Motor Starters

When your motor starts, it draws high current. Without protection, that can damage your equipment.

American Rotary motor starters control the current used to start your motor and shut it down if it exceeds safe limits.

They give you a controlled start, built-in overload protection, and optional start/stop operation in one unit.

Built in the USA for industrial applications, with models available up to 80 amps for 208–240V systems.

Motor Starter Sizing Chart (Find Your Amp Range)

Use your motor’s full load amperage (FLA) to select the correct motor starter.

Motor starters are sized based on the current your motor draws during operation, not just horsepower.

How to use this chart

  • Find your motor’s FLA on the nameplate
  • Match that value to the amp range below
  • Select the motor starter that covers your rangeloads.

FAQs

Everything you need to know about getting the right power for your equipment.

How do I choose the right motor starter?

Select a motor starter based on your motor’s full load amperage (FLA). Match your FLA to the correct amp range in the sizing chart.

A motor starter controls the electrical current used to start your motor and protects it from overload conditions.
In most applications, yes. A motor starter helps control and protect your equipment when running on 3-phase power from a phase converter.
Start/stop controls are available as an option depending on the configuration. All motor starters include a built-in overload relay with a reset button as standard
The overload relay will trip and shut down the motor to prevent damage. You can reset the unit once the issue is resolved.
Yes. Installation should always be completed by a qualified electrician following local electrical codes.

Yes, as long as the motor starter matches your motor’s voltage and amperage requirements. If unsure, our team can help.
